National Children's Theatre is a world class educational theatre for and by children, headquartered in Parktown, Johannesburg, reaching out to all South African youth in urban and rural areas, making a positive difference to their lives and encouraging them to explore the theatre and its many branches. Our objective is for children to acquire sufficient skills to gain in self confidence and self esteem, as well as competent communication skills in order to be able to speak comfortably and perform in front of others and perhaps be motivated towards a career in the theatre world. This long term aim will impact on their classroom activities, improve their leadership abilities and help in building a civil society.

This project will take their recent production, Oliver Twist, into Diepsloot and Cosmo City schools to share with the children important moral lessons through theatre. The primary theme in "Oliver Twist" is the age-old battle between good and evil. As quoted in Enotes, Dickens once wrote that he "wished to show, in little Oliver, the principle of good surviving through every adverse circumstance, and triumphing at last".
