COVID-19-RELATED CHANGE TO PROJECT

The change to the National Children's Theatre Project is necessitated by the measures imposed by the South African government to curb the spread of COVID-19 amongst its citizens. The project previously contemplated was a production performed at various schools in Soweto, Diepsloot and Orange Farm - which will now no longer be possible, nor viable. Instead, the National Children's Theatre has requested that the funds be repurposed to construct a simple outdoor amphitheatre on its grounds in Parktown, so that children may safely enjoy productions.

National Children’s Theatre (NCT) is a Non-Profit, Public Benefit, Section 18a Organisation, run by the National Children’s Theatre Trust (NCTT) and is situated in two heritage houses in Parktown, Johannesburg, on long lease from the City Council.

Since the new management under the leadership of Moira Katz in 2012, the company has been building a reputation as Gauteng’s premier children’s theatre, extending their range from regular theatre and musicals to include educational programmes, an HIV/AIDS information programme, a bullying awareness programme, and also classics for high schools.
