Goal

Kids Haven will provide a school bridging programme for 25 children with street connections.

This project will provide 25 children with street connections with an educational bridging programme.  The Bridging Programme aims to remediate the behavior of such children, improve their basic literacy skills, and prepare them for inclusion in formal school.

Kids Haven opened in 1992 to serve the homeless (street) children and children in crisis in the Ekurhuleni region, South Africa. Everything they do is focused on protecting these children and giving them a future.

Kids Haven run a bridging programme for homeless children to help better prepare them for formal schooling. These children are children living in the Kids Haven Shelter who are in first stage rehabilitation and who have dropped out of school due to their street connections. This programme remediates their behaviour and improves basic literacy skills and prepares them for inclusion in formal school. Kids Haven provides for about 30 to 60 children per month with around 20 children placed into formal school annually. The children who don’t cope at formal school are brought back into the Bridging programme.
