“Uzoba strong” (stay strong), teacher Siya tells his little class of five pupils as he reviews maths work done by the participants of the Kids Haven Bridging Programme. For correct answers, high fives are given, and for wrong answers, lots of encouragement. What makes the Bridging Programme so incredible is that it gives kids who have fallen behind in schooling due to bad home circumstances or other situations which have stopped them from receiving education, the opportunity to receive individual attention and learn at their own pace. Where possible, the ultimate aim is for these kids to re-enter the formal schooling stream once they are ready.
