The rich red tie, neatly knotted and ready to add to its owner a sense of purpose – and maybe even importance, was contrasted starkly against the cobalt blue locker. Under this bold red tie hung a few more ties that also seemed to be waiting eagerly and expectantly for their owner to bestow upon them the honour of picking them for the day. There was a sense of promise about these ties.
Funding Update: SAID
Good news! We’re just past the R15,000 mark. A huge thank you to all of you who donated towards providing 300 animals in townships in and around Gauteng with basic care packages. The care package includes deworming, tick and flea control, sterilisation, micro-chipping and vaccinations.
Notes From The Field: Tales of Turning
We caught up with Jenna-Lee Strugnell, facilitator of the Tales of Turning project, who told us a little more about what they do.
Picture of the Week: MES
We visited MES’ GROW Hillbrow Programme earlier this week. As well as meeting some of the members of the GROW Hillbrow team, we also got to see the Ekhaya Shelter, which is also run by MES. Many of the men and women living in the shelter are not originally from Johannesburg, and came to the city seeking to improve their financial position. When people are stuck for accommodation, R15 a night gets them a bed in the shelter. Above are a few impressions of shelter life.
