I believe ECD Nutrition and WASH project is a great cause. I am doing this because education is extremely important in Early Childhood Development & to consistently support Youth Development in areas that are negatively impacted by social economic issues.

Goal

An estimated 2.8 million children annually throughout Africa do not reach the age of five due to illnesses such as diarrhoea and pneumonia. In an effort to help reduce child mortality and encourage the life-saving habit of washing hands with soap, Zero2Five Trust launched a large-scale WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) pilot programme at 15 unfunded Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres in KZN in 2019.

The Zero2Five Nutrition & WASH programme has reached over 4500 children at unfunded ECD Centres in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. The initiative, which forms part of a holistic nutrition; education and capacity building programme at these centres, has been scaled up in early 2020 when COVID-19 reached our shores and since then includes 31 centres in KZN and a further 150 centres in the Eastern Cape.

Our mission is to promote holistic Early Childhood Development (ECD) in disadvantaged areas by improving the learners' health and education outcomes through nutrition and education programmes. We help children reach their developmental milestones, in their formative years, which enables them to achieve their full potential and allows for a safe and prosperous future life.

Adopting a two-pillar approach, the initiative focusses on a teachers’ training programme which aids in mothers, ECD supervisors, teachers and other staff becoming ‘agents of change’ and an interactive pre-school programme to change the hygiene practices of pre-school children and their parents.
