Goal

This project is raising a portion of the funds needed to introduce a breeding herd of elephant, together with mature bulls, into the community-owned Somkhanda Game Reserve.  Funds raised will be used for boma reinforcement to hold the elephant temporarily, elephant monitoring, dangerous game training for staff and tracking collars for the elephants.

The Somkhanda Game Reserve is one of only a few successful community-run game reserves in the country. Wild Dog, Rhino and Buffalo have already been successfully reintroduced into the game reserve. This project, which is fundraising for the introduction of a herd of elephant, will make the game reserve more attractive to tourists, therefore, improving the sustainability of the reserve through conservation business.

Somkhanda Game Reserve is situated in the Zululand District Municipality, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
