Goal

In order to strengthen South Africa's health care services, Starfish has purchased a mobile clinic, the Wellness Wagon. The Wellness Wagon is based on the School Integrated Health programme, and is aimed at ensuring the physical, mental and social well-being of children to maximise their learning capabilities.

The services include:

Specialist screening and testing equipment to aid early detection and treatment HIV, TB, sexually transmitted diseases and malnutrition.
Eyesight, hearing and oral hygiene
Immunisations
Deworming
Prevention messaging/ campaigning (prevention of drug and alcohol use and abuse, counselling on sexual and reproductive health issues etc.)
Para-medical care-physiotherapy, dietetics
Anthropometric assessments

The mobile unit will be staffed by a professional nurse and stationed at key points across the communities in which we work. Children in communities will receive greater quality of care and access to health care services, with the ultimate impact of reducing childhood mortality through the management of preventable illnesses. Care Workers will have increased knowledge and skills to support the health and well-being of the children they support through the Starfish network.
