Harold Gondwe is fundraising for Seedling Success: Nutrition and Growth for ECD Centres

I believe Seedling Success: Nutrition and Growth for ECD Centres is a great cause. I am doing this because...
Harold Gondwe
This project is raising funds for a nutrition and gardening program to help 500 children in 15 ECD centres. These children lack proper nutrition, hindering their development. The program will provide meals, establish gardens, and teach healthy eating, improving their health, learning, and social skills.
Penreach is committed to fostering educational excellence from early childhood through to leadership by providing training, coaching, and mentoring for ECD practitioners, centre managers, teachers, principals, and volunteers. Our primary focus regarding Early Childhood Development (ECD) interventions is aimed at ensuring that more children have access to quality early stimulation, thereby preparing them for Grade R. However, the Early Learning Sector faces significant challenges, particularly concerning inadequate nutrition for children. This issue often stems from parents' difficulties in affording school fees, which adversely affects ECD centres, resulting in delayed payments to practitioners and children lacking access to healthy meals.
Insufficient nutrition severely impairs children's development, potentially leading to growth-related issues such as stunted height and underweight conditions, compromised immune systems, cognitive development challenges, and obstacles in reaching developmental milestones. These deficiencies can contribute to mental health problems and an increased risk of behavioural issues, as poor nutrition may cause irritability, fatigue, and aggression due to imbalances in blood sugar and brain chemistry.
