The Papillon Foundation has thus far trained over a thousand child workers, including emergency and police volunteers, since 2015. The organisation is raising funding to host free trauma training workshops for those working with children and teenagers, NGO workers, teachers, community workers and emergency/ trauma workers, with the aim of building trauma-competent caregivers to assist existing counselling initiatives.
The funding will cover workshops to be held in 2020 in Graaf Reinet, Humansdorp and other areas still to be decided. Costs to be covered include printing, travelling, accommodation, honoraria and gifts (the majority of the catering costs will be covered by participants).
The Papillon Foundation, in partnership with Apples of Gold and LAMb International, has thus far successfully trained 1381 child counsellors since 2015.
