Citizen Science Programme
by Lapalala Wilderness School
This project is raising funds to provide an essential Environmental Education Programme for children and young adults at the Lapalala Wilderness School. The programme, which will host two community schools and benefit 120 learners, aims to teach the value of biodiversity and our place in the natural world. By focusing on crucial topics like veld management, citizen science, and conservation, the training will empower Africa's future conservation champions and instill the understanding that human health is directly connected to the health of the environment.
Our life system support on Earth is maintained by all the species that occur on our planet. Plants provide oxygen and food, wetlands clean our toxins from our water systems, bacteria break down our waste and insects and birds pollinate our fruit. The Lapalala Wilderness School (LWS) has continued to build up a deserved reputation for the essential work we do to help our children and young adult to discover the value of biodiversity in our natural world and our place within it, and to identify and nurture Africa's future conversation champions. Environmental Education courses should not be regarded as a luxury but rather as a vitally important component of the education of all our children, with the message that the health of the people is intimately connected with the health of the environment. All our citizens must understand and support the need to conserve water catchments, wetlands, and the many species of plants and animals which receive far too little attention, such as the pollinators are so essential for food security. The training will include:
