Free State YouthConnect – Community Hope Project
by Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss in Southern Africa
We are fundraising to support children from our community who come from low-income households. Many mothers are unemployed and rely only on the R560 child support grant, which is not enough to cover school needs. Our goal is to ensure that 100 children have the stationery, school shoes, and uniforms they need to start the 2026 school year with dignity and confidence. What we are doing to raise funds We are running a community-driven Back to School campaign and partnering with caring individuals, organisations, and donors who want to make a difference. We are collecting monetary donations and stationery contributions, and we are also hosting local fundraising activities to ensure every child receives the support they need. We currently have entrepreneurship programs where we sell items to support our soup kitchen, we however need donations to help is sustain the centre.

Many children in South Africa lack access to essential hearing care due to financial constraints and a struggling public health system. 84% of South Africans rely on under-resourced public services, and schools often aren’t equipped to support children with hearing impairments. As a result, these children fall behind, missing critical developmental milestones.
This project is raising funds to provide a Cochlear Implant for a deaf child from an underprivileged background in South Africa. This life-changing surgery will give them the gift of hearing, opening doors to education, communication, and a brighter future. Without the implant, they may face permanent speech and language delays, limiting their potential.
Gift of Hearing, Gift of Life.
Do you want to change a life forever? Do you want to invest in a child’s future — forever?
Imagine a world without sound — no music, no voices, no words of comfort or love. This is the daily
reality for one brave child who has never heard their mother’s voice or the sound of their own laughter.
But with your help, we can change that.
We’re raising R135,000 to fund a life-changing cochlear implant procedure for a child whose family
cannot afford it. This covers hospital fees, surgery, specialist care, anaesthesia, the emotional
“switch-on,” moment, and months of programming rehabilitation sessions.
A cochlear implant is more than a medical device — it’s a gateway to childhood. It means being able
to laugh and play with friends, participate in classroom learning, and grow up feeling connected,
understood and included. But without the surgery, the device remains unused, and the silence
continues.
Your support could open a world of sound, speech, and opportunity for this child. Every donation brings us closer to breaking the silence.
Together, we can give the gift of hearing — and with it, the gift of life.
