Goal

This project will fund an individual scholarship for Kamogelo (Thuto) Msiza, a 5-year old girl with severe hearing loss, to attend Eduplex for a period of one year.

Eduplex is an inclusive and unique parallel medium (English and Afrikaans) mainstream school and is unique in that deaf pupils are included with hearing pupils. The sponsorship includes: (i) school fees; (ii) after school care; (iii) two meals a day; and (iv) audiological management. Read more about Thuto below.

Profile of Kamogelo (Thuto) Msiza

Thuto has been a learner at Eduplex since April 2013. Thuto relies on a bursary to attend Eduplex. This bursary incudes school fees, daily meals and all therapy and audiological management. She has been attending speech-language therapy since April 2013. Although Thuto’s mother is a single mum and lives in Hammanskraal (with Thuto’s grandmother), she has shown exceptional commitment and dedication to developing her daughter’s speech and language. She has even chosen to speak English at home to aid with Thuto’s academic language. Also, she has not missed a single therapy session this year. In January 2016, she and her daughter will have moved into a flat closer to Eduplex as the far distance they drive every day is starting to negatively affect Thuto, she is often very tired.
