Goal

Cotlands is raising funds to provide a mobile toy library trailer that will be hitched to mobile health clinics serving children in rural KwaZulu-Natal. Two community health workers have been trained as toy librarians and will accompany the mobile clinic on its rounds, providing play sessions to children aged two to five years, as well as mother-and-baby-play sessions for babies and toddlers between birth and two years of age.

The funding will be used to purchase the trailer as well as educational toys, games and equipment to stock the trailer.

Close to 2000 children are impacted by Cotlands' early learning programme annually. These children receive an intense high quality programme that targets the cognitive, emotional and social development ensuring all developmental delays are address prior to Grade R. In addition Cotlands impacts thousands more through our toy library and mobile toy library programme.

A toy library is a high impact, cost effective, non-centre based programme that gives children, their families, early learning facilitators and early childhood development practitioners access to a collection of carefully selected educational play materials, play sessions and training on how to use the toys to encourage development. Children in under-resourced and sometimes hard to reach communities can borrow toys for up to two weeks before swapping them out for another.
