Goal

Language is the key that unlocks the world. Without language, anyone will have an incredibly challenging life. This project is raising funds to adapt 12 literacy school units from American Sign Language (ASL) to South African Sign Language (SASL), that will be used in South African Schools for the Deaf, as well as consultations with the creator of the program.

In South Africa, SASL is the language of Deaf people and the language that will open the world of the Deaf child.

NID is very committed to improving English literacy amongst the Deaf community, therefore we have started developing a Literacy Resource in South African Sign Language for Teachers of Deaf Learners in early 2022. This resource, used by teachers of deaf children from grades one to three, focus on improving literacy and vocabulary.
