The Find Your Life Enrichment Programme is a non-profit organisation addressing the very critical problem of unemployment in the township of Mabopane, Winterveld.
In our quest to address this enormous challenge, we have established an Employment Creation and Skills Development Centre targeting unemployed people with an emphasis on young people between the ages of 20 to 35.
The goals of this project are to:
- Equip young unemployed people with skills that increase their employability and economic engagement
- Prepare and place unemployed people in job opportunities
- Equip unemployed people with entrepreneurial skills and assistance to start businesses
The programme starts with a 23-day Job Readiness Course that places emphasis on transforming the mindset, instilling hope and the inspiration to take action. They also get personality assessments to determine gifts, talents, career direction and career coaching. Thereafter we assist the graduates to access job opportunities. We offer a 20-day Entrepreneurship Course for those desiring to start or improve existing businesses. We also provide 15 additional Certified Skills Courses to help those desiring to upgrade their skills to become more employable. The skills are done online in our computer centre with wifi, which we are still working to get up and running.
Due to the fact that we target unemployed people, beneficiaries only pay a commitment fee of R150 for the Job Readiness Course, R100 for the Entrepreneurship Course, and R500 to do as many skills as they need to. This income is clearly not sufficient to finance the running of the Centre as it is still in the initiation phase.
Eventually, we expect the project to generate sufficient income to sustain itself. But this comes after some time as the number of beneficiaries increases, as well as demand from employers wanting our skills programmes for their employees. This, however, is expected only from the second year, which makes it necessary to create an alternative source of income to sustain the project in the meantime.
For this reason, we plan to augment the monthly income, by utilizing the venue to double up as an internet café, as well as provide ‘typing and printing services’ to members of the public. This, we are confident will enable us to finance operational costs, and eventually enhance long-term sustainability.
