Imagine this: you’re a 7-year old, in Grade 2, sitting in a classroom surrounded by 39 of your classmates. Although the teacher is trying hard to control everyone, there’s a constant buzz, and because you’re always curious and easily distracted, you find it difficult to follow the lesson on reading that she’s presenting. You don’t have books at home because your parents don’t read and books are expensive, so you’re not too sure about this reading thing.
Funding Update: AMCARE
Last week we told you more about the Amcare project, and that it was over 50% funded. This week, we’re excited to tell you that the full target amount of R62,000 has been reached! The funds raised will be used towards the extension of the Njabulo Clinic. This extension has enabled the treatment of even more patients coming for surgical circumcision – a procedure that has a significant impact on the reduction of the HIV infection rate. A huge thank you to those of you who supported the project.
Inside Different: Paper Planes for a Purpose
We recently celebrated the internal launch of our Paper Planes for a Purpose campaign for Flying for Life’s cataract surgery project at our Friday afternoon staff get-together. For the campaign, participants are invited to fold a paper plane, document the plane’s flight and upload and share it on social media – and then make a donation to the Flying for Life project. Please help us spread the word, and show us your best paper plane by participating! Keep an eye out for the Paper Planes for a Purpose campaign, which is launching soon on Different.org.
Funding Update: FSLM
We’re happy to share that the Foundation for School Leadership and Management (FSLM) is just R800 shy of reaching its R100 000 target amount! The FSLM, which develops school leadership by mentoring and training programmes for school management, will use the funds raised to run a training programme for the school management team of the Meadowlands Secondary School in Soweto.
