At Different.org, we are passionate about being change makers, and helping others realise their potential to be change makers. To ensure that there is a cause close to your heart for you to support, we have chosen a number of focus areas from which projects featured on Different.org are selected. One of these focus areas is the environment. Today we want to tell you more about our environmental projects and why we think they’re worth being passionate about.

We love seeing holistic solutions to issues and because of this, we partner with NGOs that address issues in a sustainable, integrated way. What this means is that the NGO acknowledges the importance of addressing the root causes of a problem, and doesn’t merely provide “quick-fixes”. We also appreciate that the NGOs we work with recognise the importance of community involvement and empowerment.

Since Different.org launched last year, we’ve launched two projects focusing on animals and the environment. We’ve partnered with Wildlands Conservation Trust, an organisation which, along with the protection of threatened species, focuses on creating sustainable communities by empowering them with the means to provide for themselves financially. With Different.org supporters’ help, we’re fundraising for the sponsorship of an African wild dog and rhino monitoring programme run by Wildlands in the Somkhanda Game Reserve in Zululand. If you’d like to know more about the African wild dog and rhino monitoring project, have a look at the project page on Different.org.

Closer to home, we’ve partnered with the Society for Animals in Distress (SAID), which provides affordable veterinary care for “indigent” pets who typically would not have the necessary veterinary treatment available to them due to limited resources. SAID also plays an active role in educating and empowering current and future pet owners in traditionally marginalised communities to care for their pets. Their passionate field team goes out into communities such as Tembisa, Diepsloot and Cosmo City on a regular basis, providing pets with preventive treatments such as deworming, tick and flea control and vaccinations; and giving support and advice to pet owners. To learn more about the wonderful work that SAID does, and how you can help provide preventative treatment for 200 indigent pets, please visit the project page on Different.org.
