Environmental Education Programme

The Lapalala Wilderness School is raising funds to enable 60 learners and 4 teachers to attend Environmental Education and Awareness training. The impact of the project is to identify and nurture conservation champions of the future and to empower youth to take responsibility for and consequently action to improve their local environment sustainably. The training will include:
- Biodiversity and conservation
- Anti-pollution, anti-degradation, waste management and clean-up operations
- Prevention of erosion of the environment
- Regeneration, rehabilitation and sustainable management of the affected environment
- Planting of indigenous plants & trees, through Arbor Day celebrations supported by the LWS
- Youth environmental education and programmes, as conducted by the LWS
The mission of Lapalala Wilderness School is to help children and young adults to discover the value of the biodiversity of the natural world and the place within it, and to identify and nurture Africa’s future conservation champions. LWS provide Environmental Education for youth from rural and urban setting but with main focus on rural, black children.
From humble beginnings more than 30 years ago, our school has grown into a beacon of conservation, sustainability, education and hope for the future. Our vision is to help the children and youth of our nation to discover the true value of the biodiversity of the natural world and our place within it, and to identify and nurture Africa’s future conservation champions.
