Goal

Boikanyo is an organisation which works in Soweto to help help grow vegetable gardens to improve food security in the area. In association with Sediba-Thuto Primary School, Boikanyo has established a vegetable garden (known as the Intuthuko Project), which provides additional nutrition for the learners at the school as well as providing work for people in the area.

As it currently stands the vegetable garden provides food for the children at the school as well as food for the families of volunteers who assist in the garden: grandmother headed households and shack dwellers living in the area. A vegetable garden is expensive to run, and in order to make this project self-sustaining and capable of being run by the workers themselves, a vegetable tunnel will be erected on the site. Organic vegetables will be grown in the tunnel with the intention of supplying Organic Markets in and around Johannesburg. Boikanyo needs funds to help with this project.
