Goal

This project will allow 11 impoverished, deaf bursary children at the Eduplex school, to each obtain a much-needed Roger FM listening RECEIVER device and 2 deaf children each will receive a Roger touchscreen MICROPHONE.

The Phonak Roger is a digital adaptive system that wirelessly transmits a teacher’s voice directly to a child’s hearing aid(s) or cochlear implant via Roger receivers which is installed in each classroom, to improve learning, listening and speech understanding in a noisy environment as well as over distance.

The Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss in SA was established with the vision to make a difference in deaf education for children attending the Eduplex School in Pretoria. Together with today’s modern technology like hearing aids/cochlear implants and inclusive education at this mainstream school, every deaf child has the ability to develop spoken language and thereby attain their full potential, without using sign language.
The classroom can however be a challenging place to hear and learn if you have hearing loss.

The Roger microphone streams the teacher’s voice directly to the deaf children’s hearing receiver device, while it continuously measures and analyses the noise levels. This means that the student is hearing optimally regardless of how the listening environment changes.
