The 21st of May saw people all over the globe voluntarily go without shoes for a day. The purpose was to highlight the plight of those who do not have the choice to go with or without shoes and the way this impacts lives.

Without access to education and adequate healthcare, children struggle to escape  the poverty cycle, meaning that entire families and communities are destined to remain in poverty. The complexity of poverty and the myriad of factors contributing thereto call for many solutions working together to solve the problem. At Different Life and Different.org we believe that shoes can help alleviate some of the side-effects of poverty by helping keep children healthy, educated and moving toward opportunities for a better future.

In light of this, Different.org has partnered with HeronBridge College to raise money for 130 pairs of shoes to be distributed to Oviston Primary School. This school is situated on the Gariep Dam close to the border of the Eastern Cape. The school provides very basic facilities that have not been properly maintained for over 20 years and don’t cater for even the most basic of educational needs. The school has 130 learners from Grade 1 to Grade 6 who are taught in three classes. The project will provide a new pair of high quality shoes to each learner. Have a look at the project page for more updates.
