The life changing work that Wildlands does is structured through various programmes carried out across six provinces. WILDLANDS have networks in 60 communities, transforming the lives of thousands of South African individuals who grow around 500 000 indigenous trees and collect over 5 million kilograms of recycled waste annually.
All funds raised by the WILDLANDS activists as part of the #WHATIF campaign, will go to the WILDLANDS’ Trees for life initiative. This initiative empowers community members who grow indigenous trees and barter them with WILDLANDS for livelihood support items. Support for this program has declined over the last year due to the extreme drought experienced over most of South Africa. However, the programme has continued and as funds become available and weather conditions improve it will remain a critical part of the WILDLANDS fabric. Over the past year WILDLANDS bartered 283 948 trees, from 743 Tree-preneurs, valued at R2 290 612. With the worst conditions hopefully behind us, we look forward to have a bumper tree-trading year in 2017/18 and to plant more than 600 000 indigenous trees, sourced from our network of Tree-preneurs.
WILDLANDS will use the donations from the #WHATIF campaign to buy trees grown by the Tree-preneurs, and the income will be used to cover one year’s school fees for the Tree-preneurs’ dependent. WILDLANDS truly believe in the power of the collective so why not harness this in a way that encourages others to give while doing what they love? This campaign is an opportunity to enable people to realise their power as philanthropists by making it fun and easy to help others.
