Goal

This project is raising funds to improve upon their gross motor activity therapy, which is a type of treatment aimed at improving perception, balance, hand-eye coordination, and many other aspects that are termed under the umbrella of gross motor function. Their therapist would use a variety of games and activities to improve movement, helping to change the lives of many children with cognitive barriers.

Children with cognitive barriers often experience delays in gross motor skills, which can also lead to problems with fine motor abilities. A child's ability to maintain upper body support, for example, will affect their ability to write. Writing is a fine motor skill, but many aspects of it hinge on gross motor movements. Some of the learners at Sparrow, with poor gross motor development, have difficulty with activities such as writing, sitting up in an alert position, sitting erect to watch classroom activity, and writing on a whiteboard. Early intervention is very important because gross motor development may have an impact on a child's cognitive and motor abilities as they grow older. In a recent study looking at children with learning disabilities, researchers found poor gross motor skills were linked to learning lags, including problems with reading and math.

With your support, they can continue to improve our gross motor activity therapy, which is a type of treatment aimed at improving perception, balance, hand-eye coordination, and many other aspects that are termed under the umbrella of gross motor function. The therapist would use a variety of games and activities to improve movement. TOGETHER we can do more! - Thank you for your dedication to changing the lives of young children with learning disabilities and towards inclusive education
