The Society for Animals in Distress(SAID), is fundraising to alleviate the animal care crisis and give 400 animals a chance in life in the coronavirus pandemic. In a few short months, the Covid-19 pandemic has triggered a series of dramatic social and environmental changes. Yet the focus remains resolutely on humans, leaving animals largely out of the picture. Human health, animal health and environment are inseparably linked.

The Society serves vulnerable, low to no-income communities, now increasing exponentially due to the economic devastation of Covid-19 in Gauteng. In the face of an unprecedented public health crisis and economic downturn like this one, animal, human and environmental health must remain a priority.

One of the most unfortunate and unforeseen impacts of coronavirus is on animals who can no longer be looked after either due to their owners falling ill or because their owners can no longer afford to feed them. The current circumstances affect animals in all demographic areas, and we recognise that Covid does not care who you are, it affects us all. The effect on animals is devastating as most are finding it increasingly difficult to find food. more
