Goal

This project is raising funds to provide the children attending the Stay & Play programme with nutritious meals to ensure that they concentrate during class activities, as well as provide them with project materials, stationery, and textbooks (educational resources). The children and ECD Carers are provided with reliable transport for them to attend the programme on time and participate in all scheduled activities throughout the course.

Masiphumelele township (aka Masi) is home to over 40000 people experiencing social and economic challenges including high unemployment, low-income among community members, fires and limited educational opportunities for children and young people. These challenges socially exclude the people of Masi and affect their educational aspirations, which makes them hopeless and without many options to improve their livelihood.

Masicorp believes in education as a route out of poverty by offering support to children attending ‘informal creches’ through the Stay & Play Programme. Approximately 6000 pre-school-age children live in Masiphumelele, and many have limited access to any form of structured ECD learning. Informal creches are often privately owned day-care centres which are run by local women who have no formal training in childcare. These creches often have limited resources and space for children to play.
