This project is raising funds for 6-year-old Tetelo Rampedi’s educational and audiological expenses. Tetelo was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of 3, when she first started wearing sponsored hearing aids. Shortly thereafter, it was discovered that the hearing aids did not provide sufficient benefit due to the severity of her hearing loss.

The Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss in Southern Africa's vision is to make a difference in deaf education.

The Foundation focuses on changing the lives of children and adults with hearing disabilities by embracing two main projects. It offers financial assistance for under-resourced deaf children with bursaries to attend school and receive speech- and language therapy. The Foundation also assists with financial support via fundraising for children and adults in need of cochlear implants like Tetelo.

Tetelo was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of 3, when she first started wearing sponsored hearing aids. Shortly thereafter, it was discovered that the hearing aids did not provide sufficient benefit due to the severity of her hearing loss. Thanks to fundraising efforts of the Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss in SA, Tetelo received a Cochlear Implant in her left ear in 2020, which made a huge difference in the quality of her daily life.

The Foundation continued its support to raise school bursary fees for Tetelo to attend the Eduplex School where she receives mainstream, inclusive education. Her annual bursary fund includes school fees, a school uniform, school outings, 2 meals per day, extra academic support, aftercare, parent guidance, holistic support, audiological management, and speech therapy.

Tetelo learns alongside normal-hearing children at the Eduplex School, where she also develops spoken language.

With a single parent and coming from an impoverished background, Tetelo is dependent on an annual school bursary to continue her incredible development to reach her full potential within this holistic education system and required audiological support. This will prepare her for further education, employment, and independent living in future.

The Foundation focuses on changing the lives of disadvantaged, deaf children by raising funds for cochlear Implants/hearing aids, as well as for inclusive, mainstream education & speech development at the Eduplex. The Foundation believes in equal opportunities for all children, irrespective of impairment, race, gender, or socio-economic status.
