A child born to a well-supported mother through healthcare education (antenatal classes), counselling, nutrition education, bonding and stimulation for their babies & toddlers has better possibilities of a hopeful future.

Ethembeni Ministry is fundraising for a Maternal Health programme - to create loving connections for children by supporting women from the start of their pregnancy for the first 1000 days (Unicef programme).

Ethembeni means hope in Zulu. The Ethembeni Ministry Maternity programme has been running for 8 years offering antenatal services in Mpophomeni and Howick to vulnerable women in the community and they now have a dedicated centre where women can come for support during and after their pregnancies.

The services offered to the community through the Ethembeni Pregnancy Centre are:

Hosting ante and postnatal support groups with a focus on PMTCT education and support
Home visits using the first 1000 days relationship support tool "Ibhayi Lengane" designed by Dlalanathi.
Birthing accompaniment for hospital births, plus baby check-ups and growth monitoring
Support by our caregivers at local clinics by our caregivers – Howick and Mpophomeni for extra ante-natal. Information and counselling when needed
Immunisation promotion and screening for TB
Father dialogues and support to promote fathers involvement with their children
Mothers and toddler support and activity group (promoting ECD development)
Counselling for restoring key relationships in families
School visits assisting schools with girls who have fallen pregnant.
Food parcels/Nutritional support as funding/donations allows
New Born baby parcels with clothing and toiletries as funding/donations allow
Nutritional education for pregnancy, breastfeeding and babies/toddlers
