This week, we’d like to introduce you to a few projects on Different.org that level the playing field. By that, we mean that these NGOs are helping build the kind of world where a child’s hunger does not stop him or her from learning. They are also instrumental in creating safe spaces where children living in under-resourced areas may play and learn – just like their peers who attend well-funded ECD centres. They also seek to establish and educate children about their rights – in a context where these may not be readily understood or respected.

  • Save the Children South Africa is assisting Sizolompakathi ECD Centre in Tjakastad, Mpumalanga, with infrastructural improvements such as fencing and a borehole.
  • Zero2Five Trust is raising funds to implement an early literacy and maths programme at 33 ECD centres in and around Estcourt in KwaZulu-Natal.
  • The National Children’s Theatre has, prior to lockdown and the related restrictions, worked to address issues such as bullying through travelling plays that inspire behavioural change.

    Philile Shandu :

Hi my Name is Philile Shandu
Seeing that the informal settlement I leave in, does not do anything for small kids, therefore children end up playing on the streets unsupervised and that brings lots of pain to me as I love kids and have worked with them for the longest time, when I see a child I see a future of this world, now I hate seeing the future being destroyed, I have ECD certificate which allows me to be able to entroduce Play learning, I would like to offer my help for free in the community in my yard, but how do I go about registering, and also donations such as educational toys and food as I leave in a disadvantage community?
    Please assist 👏
